Light and Visibility in Autumn: See and Be Seen

When mornings stay dark longer and the sun sets earlier in the evening, we find ourselves driving with lights on much more often. This is the time when headlights, wipers, and windscreens truly prove their worth.

Autumn Checklist

  • Lighting: Take a walk around your car – check dipped beams, high beams, indicators, brake lights, reversing lights, and licence plate illumination. A second person can easily help you check the brake lights.
  • Headlight alignment: Headlights set too high will dazzle oncoming traffic, while lights set too low fail to illuminate the road ahead properly. We can check and adjust their alignment in our workshop in just a few minutes.
  • Wiper blades: Streaks or chattering across the glass are clear signs that it is time for new wiper blades. Rubber deteriorates over time, even with little use.
  • Windscreen: Remember to clean the inside of the windscreen too. An oily film scatters the headlights of oncoming cars and significantly impairs your view.
  • Washer system: Top up your windscreen washer fluid with antifreeze in good time.

Using Fog Lights Correctly

Front fog lights may be switched on during fog, falling snow, or heavy rain. The rear fog lamp is strictly permitted only in conditions of severely limited visibility – otherwise, it quickly blinds drivers behind you. Always remember: maintain a safe distance and adapt your speed to the visible range.
